Dear Readers

I wish you peace, vibrant health and happiness.

As a writing coach, I remind my dear clients to  showcase “tags” on their websites and media kits – tags are keywords and key phrases – author’s name, book titles, themes, messages, mission statements  (synonymous with their platforms) -  to help readers  find the authors and their books on cyberspace.

As a person who needs resources for myself and for loved ones, I type combinations of “tags” to find sites that would lead me to experts, services, information I need.

May you have the energy to conduct the research or have a loyal advocate to help you plow though resources.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Know what site you are looking at.  Is it a government website? Government sites are .gov (not .com, not .net)

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Are you a senior who wants to work from home?

I typed into search box these tags:  “job training for seniors to work at home”

This is not a .gov  however it is a reputable and wonderful resource for the San Francisco, California area.   https://www.selfhelpelderly.org/job-training-programs

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Are you disabled and want to work from home?

I typed into the search box these tags:  “government programs for disabled people to work from home”

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

A loved one suffers chronic dizziness.

She has MediCare.  Her doctors haven’t been helpful. Another dear friend told me that the HMO might pay for a “second opinion” and to look into UCSF and Stanford.

Loving family members and friends love helping each other …  especially when research and advocacy require team work.

I searched using these tags:
“UCSF dizziness”
Oh my goodness, here’s their page for “second opinion”

When I searched using

“Stanford dizziness” …
search engine added the tag “clinic”

Oh my, look at these departments at Stanford for dizziness

I clicked on:

In the book

IMMUNE:  Journey into the Mysterious System That Keeps You Alive

by Philipp Dettmer

Chapter 43 – pages 286 -288 say:
“To understand the role of stress and the immune system, we have to look back millions of years, to a simpler but much more cruel time in our developmental history. In order to survive, your ancestors had to deal with the evolutionary pressures the environment subjected them to. In the wild, stress is usually connected with existential danger, like a rival that crosses into your territory or a predator that wants to make you its meal.
[....]
“…  So one of the adaptations to stress was to accelerate certain immune mechanisms while slowing down others.
[....]
“… Psychological stress has actual and immediate physical consequences for the immune system, many of them not helpful. The thing about stress is that it is similar to your immune response in one extremely important aspect: When it works as it is intended to, stress is a great mechanism that helps solve an immediate problem and then shuts itself off afterwards. But the nature of the stressors we encounter in the modern world is different than the ones we evolved with. In the past the lion either got you or you escaped — either way, your stress stopped.
[....]
“In general, chronic stress seems to disrupt the ability of the body to shut down inflammation and causes chronic inflammation. And as we discussed before, chronic inflammation has been linked to a higher risk for numerous diseases, from cancer to diabetes, heart and autoimmune diseases, and also a general frailty and higher chance of death…..”

Mayo Clinic https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/depression/symptoms-causes/syc-20356007  says:

“Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn’t worth living. More than just a bout of the blues, depression isn’t a weakness and you can’t simply “snap out” of it….”

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Merriam-Webster dictionary https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/depression says:

– a state of feeling sad: low spirits : melancholy

specifically: a mood disorder that is marked by varying degrees of sadness, despair, and loneliness and that is typically accompanied by inactivity, guilt, loss of concentration, social withdrawal, sleep disturbances, and sometimes suicidal tendencies.

My 2018 artist statement for A PLACE OF HER OWN Exhibition which ran May 12 through June 24, 2018 at J-SEI in Emeryville, California.

Teresa Jade LeYung

Four smoothened wood boxes represent my dream home ? a place where I can balance the four areas of my life.  The green, blue, pink, gold (from paintings and mixed media art created by Cynthia Tom, Cris Matos, Chandra Garsson, Maria K.W. Leung) represent my affinity with Nature.

I dream of four desks so that I would not have to constantly clear off table space to make room for one project while having to put away my other projects.

All that I do and want to do are equally precious to me.  Just as there are four points on a compass, my four desks will allow me to go forward with my work with clarity.

And, when I say work, I am talking about what makes me want to get up each morning with a smile on my face and a spring in my walk.  I think beauty. I become beauty.

I transform “I was” to “I AM”

I was a child witness to family violence.

I was a frightened immigrant.

I was an adult receiver of violence.

I AM Teresa Jade LeYung who speaks openly through my writing and advocacy, my immigrant experience, and my knowing beauty.  As an author, a story consultant, and a found-object artist and student of A PLACE OF HER OWN™, I empower women to transform their own stories.  I think beauty. I AM beauty. Please visit me at http://lovemadeofheart.com/blog/

    Hello  Everyone,

    I wish you total wellness.

    I am grateful to all the people who care about my wellness / who teach me how to look for the goodness in obstacles / who inspire me to be happy, in spite of illness.

  • So many people suffer silently – their illnesses don’t display overt signs like wearing a cast or a splint.  Whenever someone asks me the question “How are you doing?” …  I feel gratitude and I reply “Thank you for asking.”  (That’s all… I don’t go into details except with close friends. Just grateful that the person asked)  Whenever I ask someone that question… I am prepared to stop and listen.

  • This past month, while my Body/Brain continues to learn from Neuro Integration System (N.I.S.) and Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) treatments from Dr. Jae Reed, DC, and, from Chi Nei Tsang treatments from Stephanie Wilger, NC

Thank you, YouTube channel “Film Courage”, for posting the 11 videos of Mr. Christopher Vogler. Mr. Vogler is the author of The Writer”s Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers.

Christopher Vogler’s 12 steps of the Hero’s Journey:

Ordinary World

Call To Adventure

  • Refusal Of The Call

    Meeting Of The Mentor

    Crossing The Threshold (Launch Into The Special World)

    Tests, Allies, Enemies

    Approach To The Inmost Cave

    The Ordeal

    Reward

    The Chase

    Resurrection

    Return With Elixir

  • Illness propels us to all the stages of a Hero’s Journey, whether we want to go or not; for me, the stages are repeating – I would feel better, then worse, then better… My Body knows so much more than my conscious Brain.

            As Dr. Amy Grace Lam’s poem says: “Maybe we only need to ask, ask our remember bones.”

  • All the cells in our body perform as archetypes on our journeys / in our stories.

  • Thank you, Philipp Dettmer, for your book Immune: A Journey into the Mysterious System That Keeps You Alive.  Mr. Dettmer is the creator of the popular science YouTube channel “Kurzgesagt—In a Nutshell”  https://www.youtube.com/@kurzgesagt/videos

    The person who introduced story-telling to me was my mother who was a school teacher in Hong Kong before she immigrated to the USA; she told me stories – translations of Aesop’s Fables. Even though I don’t remember details of the fables, I do recall how a character’s “cleverness” or “perseverance” can get one out of trouble.

    (Thank you, the folks at https://www.umass.edu/aesop/fables.php, for showing Aesop’s Fables.)

    The person who told me about the book that would inspire me to write about my experiences is Dr. Susan Thackrey, Ph.D. who taught me compassion.

    The author who wrote that book (The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts) is Maxine Hong Kingston.

    In 1998 award-winning writer Martha Alderson (who would become The Plot Whisperer https://marthaalderson.com/books-and-ebooks/) introduced me to Christopher Volger’s book The Writer”s Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers.

    Fast forward to 2023…

    To my client, compassionate author Edward C. Hartshorn, I am cheering for you and all your characters in your new book. May you gain more aha moments listening to the interviews with Christopher Vogler.
