Expert Linda Lee says:

The morning class is a round table discussion where we discuss general questions such as; domain names, hosting, websites, and what you need to get started.

What is the difference between all these things? What should they cost me? What domain names should I buy and where?

Why do I need all of this to have a website?

This is a beneficial few hours for many people. You can ask me any questions you like.

I have a presentation and hand-out with all the important facts you need to know.

It is common for people to not understand exactly how this all works. It can be quite confusing.

This is a warm and informative environment to learn. There are no silly questions here.

This class is very affordable! Click the link below to sign up and read more details if you are interested.

https://www.milibrary.org/events/author-website-building-site-works-aug-25-2018

The afternoon class is an actual hands-on WordPress (WP) training class.

Once you sign up, I will be sending your own WP test site. This is your site to use for the class, and to practice on for 90 days.

This also includes some short videos, I will send you, showing you how to login and give you a bit of the basics, before the class.

Just some of what we will be covering will include: blogging, writing a good search engine optimized article, what is search engine optimization and why do you need it? What is the difference between a page and a post? Do I have to blog?

You will learn how to correctly add images and name them. All the parts of the dashboard and back end.

Even if you have been using your website, this is a great place to learn more and refresh what you already know.

After each section of the hands on presentation, we have a Q&A.

At the end of the training, Mary E. Knippel, a writing coach, former journalist and editor, will discuss with you:

writing posts, blogging, how to stay motivated, how to tap into your creative side and ongoing ideas for your website.

Sometimes we just run out of steam, and Mary will help you dig into that creative mind we all have.

To sign up for the hands on afternoon class and read more details, please click the link below.

As always, I enjoy working with you, and helping you move forward with your website and online goals.

Are you curious to know how libraries add eBooks to their collections? Have you heard of OVERDRIVE? Do you wonder which readers are digital and which aren’t? Come to our kick-off meeting of the program year and find out! Mix and mingle after the talk, snacks provided. FREE to members and guests. Please RSVP at http://wnba-sfchapter.org/new-ways-read-ematerials-libraries-digital-divide/

Sharon McKellar, Oakland Public Librarian will speak about new ways to read, including eBooks, downloadable audiobooks, and online reading and will give insight into what types of books (genre, age range etc.) get more use digitally. She will also address impacts these new “reading technologies” have on libraries, librarians, and a population with uneven access to digital resources and will shed light on how libraries are facing these impacts, both good and bad. Following the talk there will be time for questions.

Sharon McKellar has been a librarian with the Oakland Public Library since 2003, serving as a children’s librarian, a branch manager, and currently as the Community Relations Librarian. She is a reader, a writer, and an excited member of the 2015 Caldecott Selection Committee.

We’ll also look at the work of Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell (about 25% of workshop time) and how their 30 year correspondence influenced their writing.

This workshop is running in conjunction with Berkeley Rep’s play Dear Elizabeth, Sarah Ruhl’s play based on the correspondence between Robert Lowell and Elizabeth Bishop. Workshop open to poets of all ages. Dates: Saturday 29 June and Saturday 13 July — 1:00-4:00pm both days $86 covers both sessions plus a half-priced ticket to the play Dear Elizabeth. **********************************************************

WORKSHOP LEADER: Pireeni Sundaralingam was educated at Oxford and has held fellowships from PEN USA (in poetry) and the Berlin Arts Academy (in interdisciplinary thinking). She is co-editor of Indivisible: An Anthology of Contemporary South Asian American Poetry, which won both the PEN Oakland and the N. California Book Award in 2011. Her own poetry has been published in journals such as Ploughshares (USA), Cyphers (Ireland) and Karavan (Sweden), anthologies by W.W.Norton, Prentice Hall and Macmillan, and translated into five languages.
I had a chance to chat with Pireeni Sundaralingam last year when Kim McMillon pitched us to “Bay Sunday” producer Akilah Bolden-Monifa and subsequently “Bay Sunday” host Frank Mallicoat (3 time Emmy Award journalist) interviewed Pireeni Sundaralingam, Joan Gelfand, Ishmael Reed, and yours truly Teresa LeYung-Ryan.

16th Annual ”Shelter Shuffle: Striding Toward Home” is just weeks away

Have you registered for the Shelter Shuffle yet? This year’s goal is $75,000.00 and we need your help to ensure we not only meet, but exceed $75,0000.00. The Shelter Shuffle will take place Saturday, May 18th, 2013, 9:00 A. M. at Meek Park in Hayward, CA. Join hundreds of supporters at this family-friendly, dog-friendly 5K walk! Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and lunch, live band and free tours of the Meek Mansion by the Hayward Area Historical Society .

To register today, please go to www.firstgiving.com/fesco/2013 or call 510-886-5473 to have a paper registration form mailed to your house.

The Family Emergency Shelter Coalition (FESCO) http://www.fescofamilyshelter.org helps homeless families move toward self-sufficiency. Every year, we provide shelter and transitional housing to 300 individuals (80 families) and support to an additional 300 alumni living in the community. We serve families of all configurations. While staying with us, families receive nutritious meals, mental health counseling, housing placement assistance, and focused support to help them identify a path to self-sufficiency and progress to their goals. More than 85% of our families move on to more permanent housing. More of our funding comes from community support than from any other source.
