The panel offered a lot of fresh information about this transitional time in publishing. Some things mentioned (like marketing on Facebook) were familiar to me, but others things (such as self-publishing sites like scribd.com) were new.

I liked the debate that started at the end about whether inherently good writing will always find a publisher. Also the perspective of the panelist who said, "I was on the 'Today Show' one year and out of print the next!" The admonishment to be realistic was welcome to me. We're not all going to be on the best-seller lists. I would encourage anyone who doesn't already to regularly seek out new authors and read their works. Post reviews for them on FB and sites like good reads. Helping the community of lesser known writers is doubtless good karma!

Many people I know routinely read books on devices like Kindle and Nook and I agree with the panelists who see these changes as mostly good. I don't think printed books will ever go out of style but that tablet computers can offer books a new audience.
