Greetings from Coach Teresa Jade LeYung (formerly Teresa LeYung-Ryan) . . .  I started writing my new memoir at the beginning of the year and by mid-year I have been avoiding crowds and parties. When I’m not presenting at writers’ conferences and writers’ organizations or helping clients build their fanbases, I meet up with colleagues to write and conduct research for my own books.

September 2014 Left Coast Writers Feature Betsy Graziani Fasbinder and Carol Sheldon

Left Coast Writers®: Betsy Graziani Fasbinder – Fire & Water

California time
Kate Murphy first encounters Jake Bloom as her patient in a hospital emergency room, but it is only later, when she experiences his sculptures on Ocean Beach that she is forever changed. Jake reveals beauty Kate has never noticed and exposes her to spontaneity, sensuality, and love deeper than she’d imagined it could be. Beneath Jake’s brilliance lies the menace of his profound and trecherous mental illness that Kate has yet to discover. Fire & Water is Kate’s story of navigating the treacherous territory of passionate love, friendship, and family devotion. It is the story of how love is always a matter of life and death.
In both her works of memoir and fiction, Betsy Graziani Fasbinder explores the unending complications of people living, working, and loving one another. She has been awarded the Floyd Salas Award, a Jack London award and two East of Eden awards for both fiction and memoir pieces.  Four of her pieces have been produced as Readers’ Theater works in the historic Nevada Theater in Nevada City, California.  She is the also co-producer of The Women’s Writing Salon in Nevada County.
Left Coast Writers provides literary connections, support, readings, writing tips, literary chat, unabashed networking, and great fun. LCW hosts a variety of activities to launch the books of members and explore publishing alternatives. See bookpassage.com/left-coast-writers

Left Coast Writers®: Carol Sheldon – A Sleuth in Sausalito

September 13, 2014, 7:00pm California time

A Sleuth in Sausalito takes place in California during the wild and free-living days of Sausalito. Poets, painters and philosophers dotted this artsy town, as well as a community of people living on houseboats. The river rats vs. the hill people continue an ongoing battle.

After ten years of not knowing what happened to her mother when she disappeared, Gwen Harris is notified that recently discovered remains might be those of her mother. Leaving the University of Michigan to find out what she can in Sausalito, where her mother disappeared, Gwen begins a long and arduous journey of discovering what happened, and who is responsible. Her trust in several people is shattered by secrecy, betrayal and deception. She begins to feel she can trust no one. Ultimately, she must decide who her real friends are, and who she will be able to forgive.

Carol Sheldon is the author of Mother Lode and Driven to Rage. Sheldon studied at the University of Michigan, where she earned a BA and MA in creative writing and education.

Writers On Writing; Women On Writing; She Writes; He Writes

Tomorrow, Saturday, July 14, 2012, noon to 2:00pm, while I (Coach Teresa LeYung-Ryan) will be on the “Writers on Writing” panel at Oakland Public Library, Rockridge Branch, 5366 College Avenue, Oakland, CA with Kim McMillon, Yolande Barial, Joan Gelfand, Stephanie Dale, and Judith Cody . . .

Margie Yee Webb, author of Cat Mulan’s Mindful Musings, will be at California State Fair . . .

and Joanna W. Biggar, author of That Paris Year, will be speaking in Sacramento, CA. While visiting Joanna’s blog, I found her post about another  colleague – Cara Black! http://joannabiggar.org/2012/03/10/cara-black-and-my-own-paris-noir/

I met Joanna at Book Passage, Ferry Building, San Francisco on July 9, 2012 when I was interviewing Carol Sheldon, author of Mother Lode, who was being honored by Left Coast Writers.

That got me thinking about  SheWrites.com and Jodi O’Donnell-Ames, founder of Hope Loves Company and author Judith Marshall.

www.shewrites.com

Q: Who can be a member of SHE WRITES?

A: We welcome individuals who consider themselves writers!  You don’t need to be a published, professional writer, but most of our members are, or aspire to become so.  When you fill out your profile, please use a name rather than a business.  We prefer first and last names, but we understand if there’s a good reason you need to use a pseudonym.

Businesses: We will not approve businesses as members.  We do not allow unapproved vending on SHE WRITES.  If you wish to promote your services to the writers on the site, there are a few options: 1) advertise with us 2) pitch our SHE NEEDS HELP team, and we will consider promoting you on a case-by-case basis. See our terms of use for further clarification.

Men: We welcome men.  Our reasoning is twofold: 1) legal2) philosophical.  We would not want to be excluded from a site called HE WRITES because of our sex or gender.

While looking up Women On Writing, the annual conference held at Skyline College in San Bruno, CA, I came across Wild Writing Women.

Oh how I love being Coach Teresa!

I cheer for writers & readers (women and men, teens and children)!

15-minute Plays Fringe of Marin Festival–4 women Carol Sheldon, Patricia Morin, Annette Lust, Suzanne Birrell

While each play had interesting points, Carol Sheldon’s and Patricia Morin’s were the best in Program 1.

Carol Sheldon

How can a talented novelist also be a great playwright AND a fabulous actress too! Yes, Carol Sheldon can be all 3!

Carol’s play Three Old Ladies Talk About Sex (monologues) was the second one in the program; during intermission, I heard a woman tell Creative Director Annette Lust “The second play was wonderful” and the two people nearby voice their agreement.

Patricia L. Morin,

The lessons in your play The Gatekeeper are heartfelt.  Engaging, entertaining, thought-provoking!  Brava!
