Dear Writers/Readers ,

Through Dusky Pierce’s library http://www.duskyswondersite.com, I found a remarkable book that has enriched my life, my papa’s, and my friends’.  Please ask your librarians and booksellers to make this book available. The book is The Brain’s Way of Healing by Norman Doidge, M.D.

Chapter 2 “A Man Walks Off His Parkinsonian Symptoms” is helping me help my papa who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

You know friends who have had . . . Strokes?  Chronic pain? Someone you care about suffering from symptoms of MS?  Cerebral Palsy?  Muscular Dystrophy?  Alzheimer’s?  Parkinson’s?  Head injury? Balance problems? Vision problems? Depression?

Our amazing brains!

The Brain's Way of Healing - Dr. Norman Doidge's new book

I understand now. . . that our brains can change themselves, and, our brains create “maps” for every body part; if I don’t use a body part/a movement, my brain operates on a “use it or lose it” basis. I know why my peripheral vision has declined; I also know how to improve my condition.

Our smart brains do NOT need to be reminded when we already feel pain. The saying “No pain no gain” is an oxymoron. Chapter 1 and Chapter 5 reveal just how amazing the human brain is.

Reviewing the chapter titles and the index sparks hope and motivation to ask physicians the right questions.

Dr. Doidge’s books make for fascinating reads – our brains and the phenomenon of neuroplasticity -  thank you to all the patients who did not give up, their loved ones, their physicians who did not give up, and the dedicated neuroscientists . . .  for providing the stories.

Even if your physicians and healers have not read this book . . . YOU can arm yourselves with the information and ask them to make referrals. And, you can also ask friends to share their resources.

I cheer for you, friends & colleagues!  To those who write books, I cheer for your books too!  The subject matters in your books and Dr. Doidge’s books carry plenty of connections.

Sincerely,
