Hearty congratulations to Joan Gelfand!  Her new book The Long Blue Room (published by Benicia Literary Arts) has poems which have won awards, including: Poets 11 judged by Jack Hirschman, Poet of the Month from PoetryMagazine.com, Honorable Mention from Pen Women/Roanoke, First Prize from Osmosis Sanctuary and Honorable Mention from the City of Benicia. Her poem, “Transported,” was nominated for a Pushcart prize. PEN OAKLAND “The Blue-Collar PEN”

The 22nd Annual PEN Oakland-Josephine Miles National Literary Awards will take place on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the Oakland Public Library, Rockridge Branch, 5366 College Avenue from 2 to 5 p.m. The ceremony is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a reception and book signings.

NY, I found out that Mary Monroe was/is a superstar at Kensington. I’ve met so many talented artists through Kim. Cheers to Kim McMillon, Mary Monroe, all the authors who have received the Josephine Miles award, and everyone involved with PEN Oakland.
